Golden Milk Tea
1/4 cup ground tumeric, organic
1/2 cup filtered water (depending on consistency)
2 cups full-fat coconut milk, almond milk or milk of choice
2 teaspoons ghee or non-hydrogenated coconut oil
1/2 to 1 tablespoon raw honey or maple syrup grade B (optional)
First make tumeric paste by heating up 1/2 cup water over medium heat and stiring in 1/4 cup ground tumeric. Gently stir into a thick paste consistency, add more water if it seems to be getting dry. Should heat about 7-9 minutes. Let tumeric paste cool. Then store in glass jar until ready to make Golden Milk Tea.
To make the Golden Milk Tea, first heat 2 cups of milk over medium heat then stir in 1 teaspoon turmeric. After stirring a few minutes stir in 2 teaspoons ghee or non-hydrongenated coconut oil (I usually like to whisk the milk at this point to make sure it all gets mixed). Then remove from heat and stir in raw honey or maple syrup to sweeten. Serve warm.
Did you know that India where they consume tumeric on a daily basis has the lowest rates of Alzheimer's?
The root of tumeric has been commonly used in Asian countries to treat inflammatory issues such as laryngitis, bronchitis and diabetes. Most of us may have tasted tumeric in our curries or mustard but making a simple tumeric tea can be warming, delicious as well as anti-inflammatory. Recent studies have shown that tumeric (or the active ingredient curcumin found in tumeric) has been found to help arthritis pain, diabetes, high cholesterol, skin disorders as well as Alzheimer's and even depression.
So instead of hot cocoa this winter why not give Golden Milk Tea a taste!
